A Scout is Brave.
Brave. noun. the quality or state of having or showing mental or moral strength to face danger, fear, or difficulty
October is a month where many of us are celebrating Halloween. Decorating our homes with scary things like ghosts and witches. Most of our kids will also dress up as their favorite movie character or superhero figure. It seems rather fitting that we have chosen the October Pack theme to be “A Scout is Brave”.
However, being brave is not just about facing scary creatures like ghosts and witches. It’s also more frequently about facing mental challenges and social fears. Reflecting on this, the idea of being a leader in the Pack was a little scary at first too. There are a lot of unknowns about taking over a role like Cubmaster or Committee Chair. How much of a time commitment will this be? Am I doing it right? Will I be able to give it my best?
Getting past these fears and stepping up to help the pack is something I’m proud to have overcome. This month, I encourage you to have conversations with your cub about overcoming his fears. This may be meeting new friends, riding the BIG rollercoaster or even just trying broccoli. Super cubs love broccoli.
